Cameroon relies on recognition and registration far more than on licensing exams. This page separates what is documented from what you should confirm.
Cameroon: what to know first
Cameroon is bilingual and its education follows both English and French traditions. Doctors train in a state doctorate in medicine, which takes about seven years including a thesis, at the faculties of medicine and biomedical sciences in cities such as Yaoundé, Douala, Buea, Bamenda and Dschang. Nursing and midwifery are taught in diploma and degree programmes. Instruction is in French or English depending on the institution. The Ministry of Higher Education (MINESUP) oversees universities and recognises degrees, and the Ministry of Public Health (MINSANTE) governs the health professions.
Graduation links to practice mainly through qualification and registration. Doctors register with the national medical order after their degree, and nurses and midwives take a state diploma examination at the end of training. This is why our page speaks of recognition, not a licensing exam. Foreign certificates go through MINESUP's recognition process, and some graduates sit an entrance exam for the specialisation cycle. Because Cameroon's published detail is limited, confirm programme length and registration rules with the ministry.
If you came here looking for the Cameroonian equivalent of PLAB or the NCLEX, the honest answer is that we have not found one. For the main health professions, the route into practice is paperwork: your diploma, an equivalence if you trained abroad, and registration with the professional body. The examinations that exist are tied to training, such as the state diploma, or to career steps, such as entry to specialist training.
That makes this page shorter on exam formats and longer on the recognition process. It also means some details are marked for verification, because the official pages for several professions were not available when we reviewed the sources.
| Profession | Licensing exam? | What applies instead |
|---|---|---|
| Doctors | None listed | Registration by qualification; foreign graduates need MINESUP recognition first. |

| Midwives | No separate post-qualification exam | National state diploma examination at the end of training. |
| Pharmacists | None listed | Registration by qualification; foreign graduates need MINESUP equivalence. |
| Dentists | None listed | Registration by qualification; foreign graduates need MINESUP equivalence. |
| Physiotherapists | None listed | Registration by qualification; foreign graduates need MINESUP equivalence. |
Doctors register with the Ordre National des Médecins du Cameroun, working with the Ministry of Public Health (MINSANTE). No licensing examination is listed for this step. For a diploma earned outside Cameroon, the Ministry of Higher Education (MINESUP) publishes an information notice on obtaining an attestation of recognition of a foreign certificate. That attestation comes first; Ordre registration follows.
The one doctors' examination we could document is the National Entrance Examination into the Specialisation Cycle in Medicine, which governs entry to residency. MINESUP publishes the notice in English and French. It is a written competitive examination; the sources do not give item counts or timings, so read the current notice rather than relying on any summary.

Nursing and midwifery students sit a national state diploma examination run under MINSANTE at the end of training. It combines written and practical elements. This is a qualification exam rather than a licence exam after graduation, so there is no further hurdle in the sources we hold. We could not confirm an official page for the examination, so verify the current rules with MINSANTE or your school.
For these three professions the sources list registration by qualification through the relevant national body and MINSANTE, with MINESUP equivalence for foreign graduates. No licensing examination is listed. As with nursing, the official pages could not be confirmed in our review, so ask the body directly whether any assessment has been introduced.
Cameroon uses both French and English as official languages, with a French-speaking majority and an English-speaking region. Official documents, including MINESUP's residency-entry notice, appear in both languages. Practically, you should prepare documents in the language your diploma was issued in and ask the receiving office whether certified translation is needed.
No separate language test is listed for health registration. If you are training in Cameroon and plan to work abroad, you will meet language tests there instead, for example OET or IELTS for English-speaking destinations.
The MINESUP attestation of recognition is the central step. It applies to foreign certificates generally, and it is the gate that precedes professional registration. It is not a clinical assessment, so it does not test knowledge, but it can take time and depends on the awarding institution being recognised.

Many Cameroonian graduates sit foreign examinations to work abroad: PLAB or the NMC tests for the UK, the NCLEX for North America, Gulf licensing exams, or French recognition procedures. Those are covered on their own country pages. Because Cameroon has no domestic MCQ licensing hurdle for most cadres, the foreign examination is often the first formal MCQ exam a graduate will face, which is worth knowing when you plan study time.
We do not teach the Cameroonian paperwork, and no one can sit the recognition step for you. What we do is build practice for the exams that Cameroonian clinicians actually take. Join the waitlist and tell us which destination you are targeting.
Can I register with only a diploma from Cameroon? For doctors, pharmacists, dentists and physiotherapists the information we hold says registration is by qualification with the relevant Ordre and MINSANTE, with no licensing exam. Confirm what each body wants as supporting documents.
What if my diploma is from a French-speaking country and I want to work in the English-speaking regions, or the reverse? The Cameroonian system is bilingual, and MINESUP publishes in both languages. Ask the receiving office what language your supporting documents must be in.
Is the specialisation entrance exam an MCQ? It is described as a written competitive examination. We do not have the item type, number of questions or duration, so read the published notice for the sitting you plan to enter.
If your next formal examination is abroad, your preparation plan will be driven by the destination. A graduate aiming for the UK should plan around PLAB or the NMC tests. One aiming for North America should plan for the relevant US or Canadian exam. A graduate aiming for the Gulf should plan around the relevant licensing exam and primary-source verification.
Cameroonian training is rich in tropical and infectious disease, which is an advantage, but many foreign exams emphasise guideline-based management of chronic disease. Spend extra time on that.
None is listed. Doctors register with the Ordre National des Médecins du Cameroun by qualification; foreign graduates first need MINESUP recognition of the diploma.
