Zimbabwe publishes the structure of its foreign-trained doctors' and dentists' exam, while other professions are less clear. Here is what is confirmed.

Zimbabwe at a glance
Zimbabwe's medical training is centred on the University of Zimbabwe, with other universities, including the National University of Science and Technology, adding programmes. The MBChB takes five to six years and is taught in English. The Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) accredits universities, and the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (MDPCZ) approves medical and dental training and registers practitioners. Nursing is a three-year state-registered programme overseen by the Nursing Council of Zimbabwe.
Locally trained doctors register with the MDPCZ after completing a supervised internship, with no separate licensing exam. The Council Examination applies to people trained abroad, and its structure is published unusually openly. The length of the internship is set by the Council and has varied, so confirm the current requirement. Graduates of the many Zimbabwean schools who move abroad usually need a certificate of good standing from the MDPCZ, which makes the home registration an important first step.
Compared with many neighbours, Zimbabwe is unusually open about the structure of one examination. The MDPCZ's Council Examination page sets out the number of papers, their length and their marks. For anyone who trained abroad and wants to register in Zimbabwe, that makes planning straightforward. For other professions, the picture is less clear, and this page says so.
| Profession | Local graduates | Foreign-trained |
|---|---|---|
| Doctors | Register on qualification plus internship | MDPCZ Council Examination |
| Dentists | Register on qualification plus internship | MDPCZ Council Examination (dental) |
| Nurses | Nursing Council State Registration Examination | Also sit Nursing Council examination |
| Midwives | Nursing Council Midwifery Examination | Same council |
| Pharmacists | Possible pre-registration exam; unverified | Unverified |
| Physiotherapists | No licensing exam listed | Registration by qualification |
The medical examination is built from four papers, one for each major discipline: Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Medicine and Surgery. Each lasts one hour and carries 50 marks, with questions in multiple-choice or single-best-answer style. Sittings are held in March, June and October. The examination is for foreign-trained medical graduates; Zimbabwean graduates register on qualification and internship.
Because the four papers are equal in weight, a weak discipline hurts as much as a strong one helps. Spend your revision time evenly at first, then adjust after a timed mock.

We open a question bank only when it meets our question-writing standard. Leave your email and we will write once, when it opens.
The dental examination also has four one-hour papers of 50 marks. They are grouped as follows:
The same March, June and October calendar applies. Dentists should look at how many marks each cluster carries and plan breadth over depth, since all four papers count equally.
The Nursing Council of Zimbabwe is named as the regulator, with a State Registration Examination for nurses and a Midwifery Examination. Both apply to school graduates, and foreign-trained nurses are also expected to sit. We could not confirm an official page for either examination, so we cannot state the format. Contact the Council for the current syllabus and sitting dates.
For pharmacists, the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe may run a pre-registration examination, but this is unverified in our sources. Do not plan around it until the Council confirms. For physiotherapists, the Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe registers by qualification, with no licensing exam listed, but its page also could not be confirmed.

English is the language of the examinations and of professional training. No separate language test is listed. Recognition for foreign-trained doctors and dentists is through the Council Examination, which is the whole recognition mechanism: pass it and you move to registration, fail it and you resit at a later sitting.
A four-paper, one-hour-each structure rewards pacing. We build timed, domain-based practice with explained answers, and we do not use recalled questions. We are independent of the MDPCZ and every other Zimbabwean council. Join the waitlist to hear when Zimbabwean courses open.
Four papers of one hour and 50 marks each means every paper counts for a quarter of the total. A balanced plan serves best, at least until your first mock reveals a clear weakness.
An hour for a 50-mark paper leaves little time per item. Practise moving on from a question you cannot answer within a minute, and return to it if time remains.
The three-sitting calendar gives you a decision to make. Pick the sitting that leaves enough time for document preparation and study, not the earliest one. Missing a deadline for a sitting costs four months, whereas an extra month of preparation rarely does harm. Check the MDPCZ for application closing dates, and plan to submit well before the cut-off.
If you are not successful, ask the Council about resit rules, including whether there is a limit on attempts and whether you resit all four papers or only those you failed. We do not have that detail from a published source, so do not assume either way.
