Cyprus registers health professionals by qualification. Doctors with third-country diplomas face a comparative assessment, a possible interview and a Greek C1 language requirement.

Cyprus in short. There is no standalone licensing exam. Doctors register in the Cyprus Medical Register (Cap. 250) through the Cyprus Medical Council, and the Council checks the diploma instead of examining the candidate.
Third-country diplomas go through a comparative assessment, with a possible personal interview. A Greek certificate at C1 level is required, issued by the Ministry of Education or an equivalent body.
Nurses, midwives, pharmacists, dentists and physiotherapists register through their own councils by qualification. English is widely used in practice, but the formal language requirement is Greek.
Cyprus has been a country of doctors trained abroad. Cypriots traditionally studied in Greece, the UK, Romania, Bulgaria and elsewhere, then returned and registered. That changed with the arrival of local medical schools. The University of Nicosia Medical School teaches an English-language MD and attracts students from many countries. The University of Cyprus and the European University Cyprus also run medical programmes. Check each school's programme length and accreditation on its own site.
Nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, dentistry and physiotherapy are taught at Cypriot universities and at colleges, with several English-language options. Graduation leads to registration with the relevant council, which is separate from the university.
International students at Cypriot medical schools often plan to practise elsewhere, in the US, UK, Israel, Greece or their home countries. The Cypriot degree does not carry a licensing exam, so the choice of exam depends on the destination: USMLE through ECFMG, PLAB or another GMC route, the Greek or Israeli recognition procedures, or a home-country screening test. Check accreditation conditions and eligibility with each regulator.
If you came here for a question bank, there is nothing to sit. The Medical Council compares your qualification with the Cypriot standard. For EU graduates, this is the directive procedure. For others, the Council can require a comparative assessment, an interview and language proof. The hard part is meeting the Greek requirement and assembling documents, not answering questions.
This gives Cyprus a different shape from the Balkan countries. The chain runs: diploma, recognition, language, registration. Delays occur at the language and document steps.

The Cyprus government's business portal sets out the doctor's procedure. Read it for the current document list.
The Council does not publish a syllabus for the assessment, because it is a review of your training, not a test of recall. Expect it to look at the length of your programme, the clinical hours, the specialties you rotated through and your work since graduation. A candidate with a short or heavily theoretical degree, or a long gap in practice, is more likely to be asked for an interview or further evidence.
Prepare the same way you would for a job interview with a regulator. Know your curriculum, be able to describe the cases you managed, and bring evidence of continuing education. Keep your certificate of good standing current, since it has a validity period.
Most doctors on the Cypriot register trained outside the island, in Greece and other EU countries as well as in the UK and further afield. For them, registration is the point where the foreign diploma meets the Cypriot register. If your degree is from an EU school, the directive procedure is short. If it is from elsewhere, the third-country route applies, even if you are a Cypriot citizen. Citizenship does not replace the assessment.
Specialist registration is a separate matter. A doctor who completed specialty training abroad applies for specialist recognition, and the specialty and length of training decide the outcome. Ask the Council early if you intend to work as a specialist.
Nurses and midwives register with the Cyprus Nurses and Midwives Council. Pharmacists, dentists and physiotherapists register with their councils. All six professions register by qualification, and a language condition applies in practice for patient-facing roles. We have not verified each council's current rules, so ask the body for your profession.
EU, EEA and Swiss graduates use Directive 2005/36/EC. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and midwifery benefit from automatic recognition for EU nationals, and physiotherapists are recognised under the general system. A Cypriot doctor who trained elsewhere in the EU registers on the strength of that diploma.
The Greek C1 condition is the main barrier for non-Greek speakers. English is used widely in private practice and among international patients, but the formal requirement for registration is Greek. Plan language study from the start if you want to register as a doctor.

Cyprus is a small system, and small systems reward early questions. Email the Medical Council before you apply, keep every reply, and expect the process to depend on the completeness of your file more than on any test.
Choose the destination exam before the third year, so you can shape electives and clinical hours around it. Ask the school for a course outline that lists clinical hours per rotation, since regulators ask for it. If you plan to remain in Cyprus, begin Greek lessons at once. The step that delays registration is rarely the medical content.
No standalone licensing exam applies. The Cyprus Medical Council registers doctors after assessing the qualification.
Greek at C1 level, evidenced by a certificate from the Ministry of Education or an equivalent body.
The Council carries out a comparative assessment and may hold a personal interview.
Yes. The University of Nicosia Medical School teaches in English, and other Cypriot schools run medical programmes. Clinical registration still requires Greek.
The Cyprus Medical Register is kept under Cap. 250, as described on the Cyprus government's business portal.
For EU, EEA and Swiss nationals, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and midwifery diplomas are recognised under Directive 2005/36/EC.
